MEANING OF HIJAB:

Hijab or hijab is the Arabic term for "cover" (noun), based on the root meaning "to veil, to cover (verb), to screen, to shelter"

In some Arabic-speaking countries and Western countries, the word hijab primarily refers to women's head (a headscarf worn by Muslim women; conceals the hair and neck), face, or body covering. But in Islamic scholarship, hijab is given the wider meaning of modesty, privacy, and morality. The word used in the Qur'an for a headscarf or veil is khimar

Dictionary definition:

•  A scarf that many Muslim women use to cover their hair and neck.

•  Hijab is the word in the Islamic context for the practice of dressing modestly, which all practicing Muslims past the age of puberty are instructed to do in their holy book, the Qur'an.

•  Modest dress, for both men and women, although the emphasis is usually on the female.

•  Women dressing modestly outside the home; “she observes the hijab and does not wear tight clothing”.
